Hello indie gaming friends!
Hope you've all had a great start to the year and managed to tackle some of that ever-growing game backlog! I've been a bit out of the loop after going on holiday in January - As well as playing quite a bit of Infinity Nikki - So, I’m excited to dive back in and see what’s been happening in the indie gaming world.
Recently I've been playing... Dungeons of Hinterberg
The first thing I noticed about Dungeons of Hinterberg was the art style. I love its comic book vibes!
What kept me playing was the relationship building and exploration. I loved learning about locals and tourists alike. As well as seeing how slaying and magic had effected Hinterberg. Not everything is as fun and shiny as it might appear.
If it were up to me, I would have spent every day hanging out at a meditation spot, but alas, that's not what a dungeon game is about. It's in the name after all.
I didn't mind the dungeons, but I could just as easily not have them and enjoyed the game even more. The combat and puzzles were relatively straightforward and there are multiple difficulty levels. So, don't let the dungeons be the reason you don't play.
Dungeons of Hinterberg is a fun time for those that love a little magic, a bit of slaying and getting to know people.
I played Dungeons of Hinterberg on PC Game Pass, but it's also available on Steam.
January New Releases!

Out now in EA
Can there be such thing as a cozy survival game? Aloft is claiming to be just that.
Build an island into an airship and navigate the world to find resources, build your dream home, and take care of your animals (llamas!).
This can be done alone or with up to 8 friends.
Aloft claims to reward positive actions, rather than punish mistakes which feels like a nice change for a survival game.

Less than 10 - Neocense
Did you know that the majority of games released each week have less than 10 reviews? That is hundreds of games with reduced visibility on Steam! Let's change that with this featured game.
Amori has just discovered she has Cense and can move between the Realm of the Living and the Realm of the Passing. Switch between the realms to solve puzzles and help spirits move on.
Neocense is a neat little puzzle game, that regularly gives you an 'aha' moment when solving the puzzles. The art is also beautiful and I spent a bit of time just looking at the little details in each level.
Neocense is also a student game! I've played a few student games in my time - that's how Dorfromantik and Symphonia started - and Neocense does pretty well. It has a great story and does particularly well with the tutorial. Bigger games could have something to learn there!
Neocense is a great single session game.
Do you know a game with less than 10 reviews? Reply and tell me about it!
One last thing!
I regularly post on Bsky. Are you over there too? Be sure to follow me for even more indie gaming discussion, and check out my combat-free games starter park to find some awesome accounts to follow.
You've made it to the end of the newsletter! Have you found something excellent to play this month? Let me know what it was!
Until next time,
Sarah
