One year of talking indie games!

Let's talk indie games!

Hello indie gaming friends!

I've been chatting to you for one year now! I hope I've been able to help you find a new favourite in 2024. If so, I'd love to know what it was! Reply and let me know.

I'd also love to know what you think of the newsletter. One thing I've been wondering is when in the month is best to send it out. Would you prefer to see upcoming new releases so you can add them to your wishlist or learn about the games that released in that month, so you can play them now?

Thanks for being here in 2024 and I look forward to hearing about all your indie game adventures in 2025!

Recently I've been playing... Terra Nil

Terra Nil is a city builder game without the city. Start with a desolate wasteland and work out how to turn it into a thriving environment full of plants and animals. I never knew I could be so moved by the rain beginning to fall. Once you've rejuvenated the world, you will pack up all your equipment and leave as if you were never there. Nature wins.

Terra Nil is one of my favourite city (un)builders. It's peaceful and beautiful and you never have to worry that an enemy could invade at any moment. There really need to be more combat-free builder games! I don't want to see everything I've worked for ruined in an instant. Let me build, not destroy!

There are some strategy components to Terra Nil, but nothing too difficult. Perfect for an evening wind down game.

I played Terra Nil on Steam (one of my few 100% achievement games), but it's also available on Nintendo Switch and iOS/Android (requires a Netflix subscription).

December New Releases!

Symphonia

Out now

Awaken a musical world that has fallen into silence.

Platform your way around Symphonia with your trusty violin and bow, which can be used for music and to catapult yourself around the realm.

I loved Symphonia as a student project, and then the demo. So, I'm very keen to get into this gorgeous platformer!

Mythwrecked

Out now

After getting shipwrecked on Ambrosia - a lost mythical island - you'll need to befriend the Greek Gods to help you get home.

Help them regain their memories and maybe you'll be able to solve the mystery of what happened to them in the first place.

Garden Trills

Out now

Garden Trills is an adorable 3D platformer where you play as a fluttering little sparrow.

Complete puzzles and quests, help your neighbours and grow your garden. There are even a bunch of cool colours and accessories to unlock.

The demo was super cute, and still available to play!

Less than 10 - Blobbton

Did you know that the majority of games released each week have less than 10 reviews? That is hundreds of games with reduced visibility on Steam! Let's change that with this featured game.

If a game has a hex tile board, then it's pretty likely I am going to give it a try. Blobbton is a simple hex tile puzzle game, that can get quite difficult! There are three modes, but all of them will see you placing tiles according to The Architect's wishes. This might mean rotating the board in Spin It, to putting buildings in specific spots in Fit Them.

Initially, this seems pretty easy, but gets more complex as you play. I missed out on getting a bronze score by one point in Fit Them! Let me know if you achieve a higher score!

Do you know a game with less than 10 reviews? Reply and tell me about it!

One last thing!

I regularly post on Bsky. Are you over there too? Be sure to follow me for even more indie gaming discussion, and check out my combat-free games starter park to find some awesome accounts to follow.

You've made it to the end of the newsletter! Have you found something excellent to play this month? Let me know what it was!

Until next time,

Sarah

Let's talk indie games! Hello indie gaming friends!October was a pretty relaxed gaming month for me. I am part of two monthly gaming clubs, Geeks and Grounds and The Cozy Gaming Club (Discord link), but for October I wasn't playing either of their games. One I wasn't interested in (Signalis - let me know if you think I should play it) and the other I've already played (Night in the Woods), so this meant I was free to play whatever I liked. As I'm sure you know, sometimes making a decision...

Let's talk indie games! G'day indie game fans!Did you know I'm Australian? No? I'm Australian! We have a small, but mighty game industry and this week is Melbourne International Games Week, which celebrates all things Australian gaming. It also happens to include PAX AUS. The ultimate celebration of games! Like many of you (I'm assuming), I'm not enjoying the fun in Melbourne this week, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun too! Instead of sharing new releases this month, I thought I'd...

Let's talk indie games! Hello indie game fans!Have you seen the Steam Summer Sale?! I'm sure we all have. Over the weekend I made the mistake of checking out my Steam wishlist to see what was on sale. It felt like everything was on sale and I got a bit of decision paralysis. So, I thought for this month I'd focus on games I love that are currently discounted on Steam, and hopefully you'll find something new to love! Which brings me to my favourite game of last month! Recently I've been...
